EPB: Revolutionary braking from TRW
Over the last 30 years braking technology has advanced considerably, with innovations like disc brakes and ABS making all our vehicles safer. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the basic parking brake. And neither have its functions or safety systems.
That’s why TRW has introduced their revolutionary Electric Park Brake (EPB). We believed that the time had come for change, with a need for a parking brake to match the technology of modern vehicles. A parking brake that was safer and more driver-friendly.
Braking in a whole new way
The mechanical action of the current parking brake makes it completely reliant on the brake being applied by the driver. With the EPB, we added increased safety features that turned the parking brake into an advanced system that provides safety without you having to think about it.
With this in mind we engineered the EPB, a Colette caliper with an integrated electronic
controlled actuator. Now instead of a bulky handbrake lever in the centre console, you simply have a small switch, putting complete parking safety at your fingertips. And with added features including automatic application preventing vehicle roll back on a hill, the new EPB really is the next generation in parking brake.
TRW’s unique position as an OE pioneer means they are a major supplier to vehicle manufacturers. The full and comprehensive EPB range has now been introduced to TRW’s Aftermarket programme covering vehicles including the Audi A4, VW Passat, Renault Megane etc.
Safety, comfort and convenience
TRW’s EPB enhances vehicle safety and improves driver comfort. In addition EPB also provides a number of other features:

Drive away assist – upon vehicle acceleration, the park brake releases automatically

Hill hold – prevents vehicle rollback on a hill until the driver accelerates

Dynamic deceleration – combined with TRW’s Electronic Stability Control, allows for full four wheel ABS emergency braking

Rear wheel un-locker – guarantees complete stability under emergency braking

Brake wear sensing without additional warning cable – alerts the driver to worn pads

Automatic application – EPB automatically activates when driver’s door is open or ignition is off
